Edgewater the 3-1/2 mile miracle has metamorphed from a blue-collard former factory town, into a thriving extension of New York City.
Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant, Hills Brothers Coffee, Allied Chemical, Jack Frost and Lever Brothers, just a few of the many factories that once dotted the sleepy town.
The population hardly grew for over 50 years, less than 25% during that span of time, but from the 1990’s and 2000’s its growth has been astronomical, over 55% since the las census of 2010. Personal income has grown from $44,087 to $63,455. In addition over one quarter of its residents earn over $100,000 a year.
I remember years past in the 1970’s Edgewater was a heavely industrial town, the factories started closing and leaving behind empty shells to rot in abandonment, the crisis was so, that the town was nearly bankrupt by the mid 1980’s. What a difference now, it has undergone a complete renaissance, it started in the 1990’s Fred Daibes a smart and savvy investor had the foresight and vision for the potential of this little hamlet; namely its proximity to the Big Apple. It has been transformed into a vibrant community with mix-use luxury apartment buildings, upscale townhouses and stores. A true gem of the New Jersey Gold Coast.
